Urea Crisis and Overhauling of Agriculture Sector

Pakistan is an agricultural country of which 19 crore 67 lakh 20 thousand 290 acres of land area is 5 crore 60 lakh 43 thousand 414 acres of arable land, which accounts for 24% of the total national production and 50% of the workforce is associated with the agriculture sector, which has the majority of the population. Dependence is on the agricultural sector and its associated agro-industry in which a large number of skilled manpower and farmers are employed through this sector. Immediately after the PDM, the farmers became a victim of crisis and due to the increase in their interference in the use of substandard seeds and fake agricultural drugs, these farmers who are the guarantors of food security are in dire straits. So, in long queues, they go hungry on the streets all day long and finally they have to buy this fertilizer from mafias in black. If this process is not stopped, our food security will be at risk. The rate of usury is falling on the small farmer which has a direct impact on the lives of the common people who while buying food products are thinking whether they will be able to eat two meals a day in their budget with the political instability in the country. Along with this, economic instability has gained momentum and the families going to the poverty line are now more than seven and a half million, which is becoming an alarming reality. If steps are not taken and tax-free fertilizers, seeds, agricultural medicines, oil, electricity rates are not reduced, new dams are not built, then we will miss even one time’s bread and when we have to order commodities from the outside world, the exchange which is It will not be able to do so because the government is still failing to check the rise in urea fertilizer prices. In this dire situation, the profit-seeking mafia should have reduced the prices, but instead they have increased the price of a 50 kg bag of urea, which is a proof of their delay and it seems that the government writ does not exist. They are very worried before the increase in such a further increase will further strengthen the difficulties of farmers. Despite being an agricultural country, Pakistan has to import commodities from outside to meet its needs, so it is necessary that the government Along with reducing the price of agricultural commodities, giving incentives to the small farmers so that the agriculture sector and agro-industry flourishes to meet our needs and more farmers grow better crops. It is important that the government takes measures on priority basis in its policies to develop the agricultural sector on modern lines, otherwise the farmer will not be distressed, he is already a victim of economic depression, but the common man will be a victim of extreme hardship. He does not have employment nor does he have enough purchasing power to feed his family twice a day. The government should be aware of this and take tough decisions to take better measures.
